Spiti Valley is not a destination for the faint-hearted — and that is exactly what makes it extraordinary. Located at an average altitude of 3,800 metres in the remote Trans-Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh, Spiti is a high-altitude cold desert sculpted by millennia of wind, water, and ice. Ancient Buddhist monasteries cling to cliffs, villages hang impossibly on mountainsides, and the sky is a shade of blue you will not find anywhere else in the world.

Road Trip Season

Winter Wonderland
Reachable via the Shimla route even when Manali's side is snowed in. Deep snow and a Spiti very few travellers ever see best for experienced cold-weather travellers.

Spiti Valley Package FAQ
Do I need a permit to visit Spiti Valley?
Indian nationals don't need a permit for Spiti itself. An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is only required for specific restricted areas near the Tibet border, like Shipki La and the Pin Parbati Pass route. We handle that paperwork as part of every package.
Is altitude sickness a real concern?
Yes most of Spiti sits between 3,800 and 4,500 metres, and altitude sickness is a genuine risk regardless of fitness level. Our itineraries build in acclimatisation days, and our drivers carry basic oxygen and first aid throughout. If you have any heart or respiratory condition, please check with your doctor before booking.
Should I enter via Shimla or Manali?
Both work, but they're different trips. Shimla–Kinnaur is the gentler, more gradual climb and stays open longer into the year. Manali Kunzum is faster and more dramatic, but only open roughly June to October and gains altitude quicker. If your dates allow it, we often recommend looping in one way and out the other.
Will I have phone network or ATMs in Spiti?
Barely. Network is patchy at best and mostly limited to Kaza don’t count on it elsewhere. There are a couple of ATMs in Kaza, but they regularly run out of cash. We strongly recommend carrying enough cash from Shimla, Manali, or Reckong Peo before heading in.
Can I customise my Spiti itinerary?
Always. Extra nights at Chandratal, a longer stay in Kaza, combining the trip with Manali or Kasol, a private vehicle instead of shared we build the itinerary around your dates and pace, not a fixed template.
